The Ruston & Hornsby class 48DS shunter is likely to become an out-and-out favourite machine amongst Hornby modellers in 2019. Our review of 2018 thus includes this sequence of a prototype 48DS at work shunting wagons on the Great Central's real branch line to Mountsorrel, in March. The reconstructed branch has not previously been shown (it's been "unseen"!) on our website so we are delighted to be able to show it at last. Steam was also present at the Nunckley Hill site in the form of another industrial shunter in the form of "Austerity" tank no 68067 (actually an ex-NCB engine) which had itself only returned to steam in the previous November.
