Having spent the past three years (almost to the day!) in drag as "Lord Dowding", Saphos Trains' flagship Southern Light Pacific returned to "her" true identity as no. 34046 "Braunton" and became a Rebuilt West Country once again on Friday 14th June 2019. The nameplates were returned to the engine at Bristol in preparation for its railtour the following day from the city via Westbury to Kingswear at the mouth of the River Dart "for Dartmouth". On a day of very mixed weather (notably extreme winds and rain) we caught up with her as she topped the climb from her destination with the returning train at Churston. She had made a fine climb on wet rails with an 11 coach train which includes a heavy generator carriage which obviates the need for a "safety" diesel.
