The company, which also organises the Shakespeare Express between Birmingham Snow Hill and Stratford-upon-Avon, announced the scheme which has been launched to raise £3m to secure the future of these historic trains being able to operate along mainline routes.

This investment for the publicly owned British railway company will create up to 11 full-time roles, and help to support the development of their current steam services as well as keeping steam trains running regularly on UK main lines. The company will also be using part of the potential investment to upgrade carriages to offer increased disabled access facilities and
make further improvements to their Tyseley depot, including creating a training, education and heritage centre.

Michael Whitehouse, Chairman of Vintage Trains said : "With this public share offer we invite you to own part of the magic of express steam train travel. We shall sustain local employment, encourage international tourism, and keep alive in immaculate working condition our beautifully decorated steam greyhounds that effortlessly work express steam trains for mile after mile."

"The increased profits generated will all be ploughed back into the business. Those who subscribe can expect to receive interest on their shares from year 6 and we will provide a fund for them to withdraw their money over time. This is additional to the benefits received as a shareholder."
