Operated by Rochdale-based JSD Rail, the weed killing train was on a training exercise when it came off the rails at 10.30am, partially blocking the adjacent Manchester Metrolink route between Radcliffe and Bury.

The incident resulted in the disruption of Metrolink services over the route to Bury. There were no injuries but ELR chairman, Mike Kelly confirmed with local media that the incident would be subject to an investigation.
