As we recently reported on our Unseen Steam "Railway News" a Swiss rack-railway mountain-climbing steam locomotive has been running throughout September 2018 on the Snowdon Mountain Railway. The locomotive, Brienz Rothorn Railways no. 2, was built at and by the Swiss works in the same factory in Winterhur, Switzerland to the designs of Dr. Roman Abt, a Swiss engineer, in the late nineteenth century. Although basically of the same general design, it is quite different in appearance to the Snowdon's own Abt locomotives, notably in the angle at which its boiler rests in the frames. This can be seen as the locomotive passes the locomotive shed at Llanberis where Snowdon nos. 5 and 6 were on shed, themselves unalike in some details.
