With virtually no steam working anywhere in early January 2018 we continue our series of retrospective views and highlights from 2017, in this instance spotlighting the return of steam to the Settle & Carlisle line after its enforced hiatus following a massive landslip which had closed it completely as a through route in February the previous year, shortly after the first main line railtour behind the rejuvenated "Flying Scotsman". The first steam was a series of service trains worked by 60163 "Tornado" in February 2017, one of which is seen northbound near Dent on 15th February 2017. Then the official reopening train ran on the last day of March - hauled by "Flying Scotsman"! We see it ascending the Long Drag near Horton-in-Ribblesdale.
